An introduction to Piston Science, this 2.5 hour online course presents an alternative model for creating central stability in patients and clients through the relationship between the Diaphragm and Pelvic Floor. This integrative neuromuscular model achieves stability through coordination of the “core components”, versus simply strengthening them. This allows for a flexible and responsive system of dynamic support that promotes optimized function, movement and fitness. Evidence to support a dynamic and coordinated model of central stability, the relationship to dysfunction across the lifespan, and a case study to encourage concept synthesis are presented. The information is intended for professionals to be applied within their scope of practice and licensure.
