**Performance Health Consults focus on promotion of fitness/wellness and optimization of athleticism. They are NOT considered rehabilitation, and therefore are not not reimbursable by Medical Insurance**. Rehabilitative care is intended to address an injury, pregnancy, or postpartum need that limits your regular participation in function and fitness, and impacts your quality of life. Rehabilitation involves specific assessment and hands-on, exercise, or active interventions to restore movement, function, and quality of life. If you think your needs are more rehabilitative in nature, please see our rehab services HERE. Dr. Wiebe’s medical licensure only allows her to provide rehabilitative care in California or Michigan.

3. What is Julie’s approach to care and how can she help virtually?

Julie uses movement and fitness as medicine. Her collaborative-consultative approach has always utilized education, movement adaption, and sport specific strategies (brain and body) that you can independently integrate into your fitness and sport.  Her hands-off, external, and functional interventions lend themselves beautifully to remote consultation (see below for how to optimize your visit). You will be asked to take videos of some specific movements, your fitness activities, or sport performance in advance of your first online session. This will allow Julie to clearly “see” you in action in the actual environment where you enjoy your physical activity and sport. When you connect in real time, you and Julie will review the films together during your online session and build a plan to support your goals. Video updates on your progress allows for ongoing observations of movement and performance and will be the focus of collaborative conversations to help you pursue your performance health goals.

4. Does my private health insurance cover performance health sessions with Julie?

No, Performance Health consults are not considered rehabilitative services, therefore these services are not reimbursable by Medical Insurance. Payment is required at the time of service. Julie will provide an invoice.

5. Do I need a prescription?

No, Performance Health consults are not considered rehabilitative services, therefore prescriptions are not required for physical therapists to provide fitness and wellness services (California Practice Act Sec 2620 paragraph 4, subdivision a).

6. What do i need to do to prepare for my performance health needs assessment? Do I need a prescription?

In order to optimize our time together, we use shared photographs and videos to help bridge the distance between us and to ensure visual clarity for an accurate needs assessment. This allows Julie to “see” you in action in the actual environment where you enjoy your physical activity and sport. When you connect in real time, you and Julie will review the films together during your online session and build a plan to support your goals. In addition, we can use the photos and videos to monitor your progress, and explore new movement challenges.

Once we have received your intake forms, we will send you a link to a Google Folder that will provide you with a welcome video from Dr. Julie Wiebe, PT, DPT with some general instructions and information on what to expect in our visit, a video example of the pictures and videos you need to take with your smart phone, and an intake checklist.

We will also send you a personalized link to a HIPAA compliant Google Folder link. This private, protected folder will be where you can upload the intake pictures and videos (and additional video specific to your sport or challenges).Only you, Julie Wiebe and her administrative team will have access  to the folder. In addition, this will be an ongoing way to exchange information, program updates, photos, and videos with Julie. Please upload the pictures and videos to this private folder at least 48-hours prior to your visit. This will allow Julie to look over the videos and your other intake information to prepare to discuss them at the visit.

Please wear exercise clothing, shorts, or jog bras to help Julie  see as much as possible at the initial visit. In addition, if you have long hair please pull it  into a ponytail or bun. Evaluation visits last 75-90 min, unless an extended evaluation is pre-scheduled.

7. What can i expect from my remote performance health needs assessment session?

You will be provided with a link to join the visit on the Jane telehealth platform at your assigned date and time. Once on the platform, we will be able to see  each other and communicate in real time. This will be your  opportunity to share your story and fill in the rest of the picture painted by the information and videos you provided pre-visit. Through collaborative conversation, we will connect the dots from your story, look at photos and video together,  and the clues provided in your physical assessment to build a plan to reach your performance health goals. We will begin to build a customized plan that will include tailored recommendations, education, targeted exercises, movement and fitness strategies that you can implement immediately. Please wear exercise gear or loose fitting clothing.

8. What can i expect from my follow-up sessions?

Follow-ups are scheduled weekly, bi-weekly or monthly  depending on how well you are progressing through the program, how much practice you need, and how soon you will be ready for an exercise progression. Each session  builds on the information and strategies learned at the  previous session. We will monitor and modify the program as we integrate new strategies into meaningful movement, training strategies, and performance needs. You will be given homework at  each session for you to work on until your next session. Follow-up  appointments last 1-hour, unless an extended session is  pre-scheduled.

9. How long is each session?

The initial needs assessment, program planning, and goal setting is scheduled for 75-90 min. Follow-up sessions are scheduled  for  60 min respectively. If there are  significant physical issues and complications an extended a 2-hour session may also be recommended.

10. How frequently will I attend sessions and for how long?

How long you will attend sessions and session frequency will be an ongoing conversation between you and Julie. Your goals guide the trajectory. Factors to be considered are the type of goal (ex: refining running form vs pregnancy to 4th trimester fitness monitoring), your ability to integrate and practice the strategies, and evolving needs as we implement a tailored program. With good communication, collaboration, compliance, and consistency with follow-ups and understanding  of the materials most require about 4-8 sessions, spread over 2-6 months.

11. What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment is due at the end of each session. Credit cards can be utilized through our electronic record keeping portal (Jane).

12. What other resources are available?
